New to photography, please give me some advice! I just have fun spending time with my animals this way and would love to sell some prints. :)
This is Stella Luna. She's a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. She had just shed her skin so I took her into the sun to capture her incredible beauty (though this photo does her no justice)! The rainbows are caused by microscopic ridges in her scales. During different times of the day she will actually shine differently (in the late part of the day she seems to glow purple).

I love Brazilians so much; this is a beautiful photo, although you're right, it'll never do justice to the real thing. :) Just after a snake sheds it always the best time to get a photo of them, so you've got that right. The best tip any photographer can give you is to just have fun and make sure you have good lighting! :D Considering how snakes tend to want to wander all over the place rather than coil up and stay put for picture-time, it's often easiest to place the snake in a shallow bowl that is a color that'll show off the reptile's patterns and hues. Plastic works, but tends to reflect lights drastically, so I'd advise using something made of ceramic or clay. Snakes generally coil right up when put in a bowl, from my experience.

Thank you! :D A little more advanced as far as snake keeping goes, but definitely do-able if you're familiar with snake care. Main thing to worry about with BRBs is dehydration and making sure they don't overheat while keeping them warm.

Really nice photo! Since you asked for advise, my critique would be this: watch where your camera is choosing to focus. Her body is beautiful, but the tight focus in this shot is in the lower 3rd of the photo, while her head, which is where my eye is drawn as the main point of interest of the photo, is clearly out of focus. Other than that, it looks good to me!
